Danish eyewear brand to be acquired by luxury group
Lindberg sells to Kering Eyewear
Kering Eyewear and the Lindberg family have signed an agreement to acquire 100 per cent of Lindberg’s share capital. The transaction is subject to clearance by the relevant competition authorities and is expected to close in the second half of 2021.
Lindberg, founded in Denmark in 1969 by optician Poul-Jørn Lindberg and his wife as an optician’s shop and transformed into a multinational company by their son Henrik, is a manufacturer of design-oriented, lightweight and customisable prescription eyewear in the high-end segment, specialising in titanium.
A purchase price was not mentioned, the Danish eyewear label employs over 750 people. The Paris stock exchange already showed initial reactions with slight gains in Kering shares. The luxury group owns eyewear brands such as Cartier and Gucci.
Comments on the Lindberg takeover
Roberto Vedovotto, President and CEO of Kering Eyewear, said:
“We are thrilled to welcome Lindberg to the Kering Eyewear family. I admire and have the utmost respect for what Henrik Lindberg and his families have built over the last 35 years. Lindberg is absolute luxury eyewear and will perfectly complement the portfolio of brands that Kering Eyewear has assembled since 2014, making it even more relevant to our specialised distribution network. We look forward to working with the Lindberg teams to further strengthen their brand awareness and increase their international reach.”
Henrik Lindberg, Founder and CEO of Lindberg:
“35 years ago we started our company in two small back rooms behind our family opticians shop. With nothing more than the idea of adding unprecedented comfort and quality to the eyewear business. Thanks to our team of dedicated employees, we can now call ourselves – in Roberto Vedovotto’s own words – a manufacturer of ‘absolute luxury eyewear. Kering and Lindberg share the common philosophy that design is ultimately about taking eyewear to a higher level. For this reason, the Lindberg family is delighted to pass the torch to Kering Eyewear. Under the leadership of Roberto Vedovotto and supported by the impressive values and high standards of the Kering Group, I am convinced that the Lindberg brand will reach new heights while preserving its core values and unique DNA.”
