Our oceans are dying

Plastic accounts for approximately 90 percent of all trash floating on the surface of the oceans. 8 Millions tons of plastic end up in our Oceans every year, this equals to 254 kg. per sec. or 1,14 kg inhabitant. 27% of the world’s coral reefs are dead, by 2050, 60% of the world’s coral reefs will be destroyed.

13% of the total Ocean plastic contamination is caused by Ghost fishing, these fishing nets that are lost, abandoned or dumped by fisherman at sea. Every year, more than 800.000 tons of abandoned floating nets, equivalent to almost 3 million km2 or a 1/3 of the size of the USA, driven by winds and currents, create islands of waste that entangle and kill hundreds of thousands of sea mammals and fish. Those nets, made with one of the strongest non bio-degradable synthetic material can rest on the sea bed and get ingested by animals for more than 500 years.

We are what we wear

The spirit of Sea2see is to create a global consciousness with regards to the issue of sea contamination through a stylish, hip product that is seen and that anybody can wear with pride. The company produces sunglasses and correction frames.

Sea2See was started by François van den Abeele, a father and entrepreneur with deep passion for oceans and nature, convinced that around the globe consumers are becoming more environmentally conscious, that they expect ecologically friendly materials, a conservation-minded use of resources, reduced emission of pollutants and greater social commitment.

Made with 100% recycled plastic waste

François van den Abeele: „We cut, separate, clean and select plastic waste to be re-used. The recycled material needs Extrusion of plastic precautions, therefore the R&D department needs to test the material prior to any injection of plastics. We are collecting 1 Ton of abandoned nets, ropes and plastic every 3 days. Fishing communities collaborate and deposit abandoned nets, ropes and plastic in more than 120 containers put in 22 ports of Spain.“

„One Frame – handmade in Italy – is the equivalent of 10 squaremeter of recycled ocean. Our customers are people who think differently and who are proud to wear a statement of change.“
